 During the seventy-five years of its existence, Barrandov Studios has either produced or participated in more than 2,500 film productions, Czech and foreign alike. Many of them have received international awards, including Oscar for Best Film, such as “The Shop on Main Street”, “Closely Observed Trains”, or “Amadeus”.
Production companies from all over the world come to the famous hill standing above Prague in order to find everything that is required for creating their films – soundproof stages, set design and construction, film technology, costumes and props, and even film laboratories.
In 2006, Barrandov Studios will complete the construction of three brand new sound stages, which, when joined together, will create the largest soundproof stage in Europe, measuring 4,000 square meters in size. At the same year, Barrandov Studios acquired a license for digital television broadcasting, which the company will commence in 2007.
